(659 words) - [Australasian CXO Healthcare Cloud Summit](/content/news/australasian-cxo-healthcare-cloud-summit/index.html):
We recently attended the Cloud Healthcare Summit which had a lens on the value and need for the health industry and its governing bodies to prioritise resources, focus and financial support towards digital platforms and cloud based technology.
The Summit was an opportunity for thought leaders from across digital technology and healthcare sectors to come together to discuss the recent successes of acceleration into digital innovation, along with the challenges and obstacles that the industry continues to face despite demands for change.
Alongside representatives from all areas of primary and secondary healthcare and supporting industries, we were pleased to be part of robust discussions supporting the need for further development and systemic reform around expanding digital healthcare.
Cardihab CEO Helen Souris was invited to speak about how the application of a cloud based, digital platform such as Cardihab is changing the game of Cardiac Rehabilitation.
We now have real world evidence to support the initial trials that show Cardihab's digital cardiac rehabilitation solution can match or exceed outcomes of traditional face-to-face cardiac rehab. This is an important outcome for patients that want and need more options, particularly those facing barriers to participation such as time or location. Digital platforms provide options that improve participation and adherence which are vital to improved outcomes.
However, there are many more funding, resourcing and industry based challenges that digital platforms face which need to be addressed in order to deliver the improved, secure, agile and available anywhere, anytime care that the community demands and the industry needs.
Cardihab CEO Helen Souris presents: 'If we keep doing what we've always done we'll keep getting the same results'

(321 words) - [Cardihab and Albury Wodonga Health collaborate to improve accessibility in cross border region](/content/news/albury-wodonga-health-partnership/index.html):Cardihab and Albury Wodonga Health recently launched a partnership to ensure ongoing access to quality rehabilitation services are made available for those living with chronic diseases in regional New South Wales and Victoria.
Albury Wodonga Health is a cross-border health service providing a comprehensive and growing range of health services throughout the region. Like many communities in regional Australia, issues such as transport and distance create significant barriers to essential services for many Albury Wodonga patients.
After successfully integrating the Cardihab digital cardiac rehabilitation program into their outpatient offering for cardiac patients, the Albury Wodonga Health team are excited to now extend the program to their Health Coordination Team (HCT). The HCT coordinates much-needed services for those suffering from a range of long-term chronic illnesses including complex respiratory conditions, diabetes, and heart failure. Access to a digital program will mean many in the region who may have previously missed out due to lack of access, and who are at a high risk of another hospital admission, will receive the care that they need.
Cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is traditionally an exercise, education and support program designed to help guide patients through their recovery after an event or procedure. CR is proven to improve health outcomes and reduce the chance of a hospital readmission within 12 months after a cardiac event by up to 56%. Despite this, up to 80% of eligible patients do not participate in cardiac rehabilitation after they have had an event, with common barriers such as transport, distance and flexibility contributing to poor participation and completion rates.
The Cardihab digital platform provides a high-quality, guideline-aligned and convenient cardiac rehabilitation program designed to overcome many of the common barriers to participation, enabling equitable access to essential healthcare post-cardiac event, regardless of a patient's location.
Cardihab patient app-SmartCR, provides patients with a personalised care program that addresses their risk factors. The app allows patients to record data such as health measures (eg blood glucose, weight, blood pressure) exercise sessions, symptoms, receive medication reminders, access education modules, and connect with their clinician via telehealth consults. The app connects to a secure clinician portal allowing the care teams involved to review-in real-time-their patient's health data and progress.
Cardihab CEO Helen Souris says, "we are delighted that Albury Wodonga Health, a significant healthcare provider servicing a large regional area, are using the Cardihab solution to support their communities.
While the health industry has been aware for some time of the potential for digital solutions to make improvements to outcomes-particularly in regional areas where there is significant health inequity-it takes vision, effort, time, and the dedication of people passionate about making a difference to make change happen. We are thrilled to be collaborating with the Albury Wodonga Health team, as we work together to enhance healthcare outcomes throughout the region."

Click Here (613 words) - [Cardihab partners with Australian Centre for Heart Health](/content/news/australian-centre-for-heart-health-and-cardihab-partnership.html):Cardihab is pleased to announce its partnership with the Australian Centre for Heart Health with the goal of supporting the mental health needs of patients who have experienced a cardiac event. The partnership will enable the Centre's extensive library of clinical resources to be made available to those participating in Cardihab's virtual cardiac rehabilitation programs.
The Australia Centre for Heart Health is an organisation dedicated to supporting people who have had a cardiac event in their psychological, social and behavioural recovery.
The Centre's range of evidence-based resources have been developed from its own world-leading research, as well as that of other experts in cardiac-related behavioural and psychological support.
Each year, around 54,000 Australians have a heart attack and up to 75% of survivors experience the 'cardiac blues' during recovery, a phenomenon which is characterised by a range of distressing and often debilitating emotional, behavioural and cognitive changes. Typical emotions include anxiety, fear and worry; anger, irritation and frustration; distress, sadness and depression; guilt and denial¹.
Resources developed by the Australian Centre for Heart Health address conditions such as the cardiac blues, as well as other common mental health issues faced by patients, helping to build awareness and provide strategies to develop resilience to overcome these issues.
Cardihab CEO Helen Souris says the partnership was integral to Cardihab's ongoing commitment to delivering exceptional patient care plans and support.
"The psychosocial impact of a cardiac event is significant but can often be underestimated. Emotional recovery is as important as physical recovery in ensuring people can effectively return to their lives, and we know the Australian Centre for Heart Health resources will go a long way in helping clinicians and patients to understand and navigate this aspect of the recovery journey".
Australia Centre for Heart Health Director Prof. Alun Jackson is pleased to be extending their clinical content and expertise to more patients through this partnership.
"It's a great collaboration to help ensure cardiac patients are receiving high-quality, evidence-based care in terms of mental health resources and support. We're pleased to be able to extend our programs through Cardihab's digital therapeutic platform, to ensure we maximise reach and patient outcomes."

Healthcare providers and patients will soon benefit from an intuitive health data analytics product called C.R.O.P.S which is designed to unlock insights gained from digital health platform Cardihab®.
Cardihab were recently awarded $782,768 in matched funding from the Australian Government's Entrepreneurs' Programme - Accelerating Commercialisation, to further develop data analytics capabilities and products within the Cardihab ecosystem under the product name C.R.O.P.S-Cardiac Rehabilitation Outcomes and Process Synopsis.
The project titled 'C.R.O.P.S - impact via health data and augmented intelligence in care' has the potential to transform the efficiency of care and outcomes for patients and health services by automating much of the collation and analysis of complex health data entered by patients and clinicians. It will also leverage Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) systems to process the real world data from Cardihab's patient care plans to identify signals or trends in patient behaviour that could indicate positive progress and/or deterioration that would require clinical attention.
The project will address key challenges of efficiency in care delivery and scalability, by both reducing the administrative and analytical burden of governance reporting as well as providing an augmented and intelligent point of care solution that will give clinical teams valuable decision making tools.
Cardihab CEO Helen Souris says this is a highly sought after solution that is targeting the growing challenge of extracting meaning from the petabytes of health data that are in our health system, and one that promises to transform current care practices for the better.
"Many of our customers have expressed a desire for a product like this to help efficiently extract insights from the huge amount of health data that is generated through the daily use of our platform. We're building a suite of tools to support clinical and business decision making, that will ultimately enable more patients to have access to care."
Accelerating Commercialisation is a service under the AusIndustry Entrepreneurs' Programme, that provides organisations with advice and funding up to $1 million, to assist in the development and commercialisation of products that represent genuine innovation and a compelling value proposition backed up by market demand.

READ MORE - TALKING HEALTHTECH (419 words) - [Learn more about our Providers](/content/news/2023-christmas-message/index.html):
As we move towards the end of another year and into the festive season, it's a great time to reflect on our achievements, the topics that captured our attention, and to take a moment to recharge as we plan for another exciting year ahead.
2023 was a significant year of growth in terms of the number of people we helped recover from cardiac events Australia wide through our network of pioneering customers and providers. We have also made significant progress in our strategic initiatives with heartfelt thanks to the tireless effort of our incredible team, our valued Cardihab Providers, and made possible by a number of government and industry grants, as well as the continued support from our investors and shareholders.
The topics that captured our attention included the welcomed push (again) for a change from activity-based funding to outcomes/value-based care, a movement that is building momentum but, in line with the traditional pace of change in healthcare, is moving cautiously and slowly.
While the resounding buzz around the potential for digital health solutions to overcome inequities in care remained throughout 2023, it was abruptly overshadowed by the frenzy of interest in AI-powered chatbots like ChatGPT.
The vulnerability of businesses, services, and consumers was exposed when Optus went down, triggering an Australia wide disruption and a critical reassessment of risk management and business continuity measures.
These are just some of the many topics that consumed our thoughts and inspired our reflections on what we needed to do to be resilient and emerge successfully from these testing times.
As true as it ever was ... we live in interesting times. From the Robert F. Kennedy Day of Affirmation address on June 6, 1966:
"Like it or not, we live in interesting times. They are times of danger and uncertainty; but they are also the most creative of any time in the history of mankind. And everyone here will ultimately be judged - will ultimately judge himself - on the effort he has contributed to building a new world society and the extent to which his ideals and goals have shaped that effort."
While the world has transformed in so many ways since the 1960's, one thing that has not changed is the catalytic potential of an individual who is committed to a better and brighter future. Transforming the health sector through digital health innovation requires leadership, inspiration, shared goals, persistence and team effort. This year we welcomed Roche Diagnostics, Australian Centre for Heart Health and Heart Support Australia as strategic partners to amplify the impact we deliver for our customers, patients and communities.
There are plenty more exciting projects and enthusiastic partnerships to be announced in the new year and we look forward to sharing future highlights.
In the meantime, on behalf of the team at Cardihab I sincerely wish you and your loved ones a happy, safe and healthy Christmas, and a prosperous new year.
Best wishes,
Helen Souris

Cardihab has been selected for a global program from Amazon Web Services (AWS), supporting organisations that are developing solutions to advance health equity.
Cardihab will receive computing credits and technical expertise from Amazon Web Services which will be used to further facilitate its digital cardiac rehabilitation platform. Cardihab's digital programs are designed to help ensure the significant proportion of marginalised patients that should participate in cardiac rehabilitation but cannot due to common barriers-such as lack of transport, time constraints, competing work/life commitments, psychosocial factors etc- will have an alternative pathway to participation.
Through the program, AWS offers AWS credits and customised technical expertise to selected organisations around the world that want to use AWS services to improve health outcomes and health equity in any of the following areas:
1) increasing access to health services for underserved communities;
2) addressing social determinants of health;
3) leveraging data to promote more equitable and inclusive systems of care; and
4) advancing equity in diagnostics and screening
The support from AWS will advance Cardihab's efforts to deliver more equitable access to care for those at risk of, or living with, cardiovascular disease (CVD).
In addition to delivering a high quality, flexible, guideline aligned cardiac rehabilitation program that can have a critical impact on patient outcomes, the Cardihab solution also establishes a dynamic dataset that includes observations, activity, medication and psychological metrics which are gained throughout the course of a rehab program.
Integration with wearable technology and objective measures entered by clinical staff create a comprehensive set of high-quality data that facilitates an AI supported feedback mechanism to personalise care for optimal outcomes. Data is mapped into FHIR resources for maximum interoperability.
"To be selected to be part of this program is a wonderful testament to the potential of the Cardihab solution to have an impact on how we deliver equitable patient care, and to improve patient outcomes in the future. Our strong data solution is a key component in ensuring robust insights and key metrics are harnessed in an incisive and adaptable way, to help build sustainable care pathways", said Cardihab CEO Helen Souris.
"AWS believes individual health outcomes should not depend on socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, or neighbourhood, "said Maggie Carter, Global Lead, Social Impact at AWS. "Cloud technology can be a force multiplier when it comes to addressing the inequities in global health that have been amplified by the pandemic. Through this program, we look forward to helping Cardihab and other organisations worldwide use AWS to advance health equity and improve health outcomes."

(113 words) - [Local investment gaps and the need for dedicated funding for digital startups](/content/news/australian-financial-review/index.html):Cardihab CEO Helen Souris recently spoke to Yolanda Redrup, an award-winning senior journalist from The Australian Financial Review to discuss the impact of the Australian investment landscape on digital health startups. They discussed how things need to change in order to strengthen the Australian ecosystem and capital support to compete with other markets.
According to ANDHealth CEO Bronwyn Le Grice, where the US has significant investment funding pools dedicated to accelerating emerging digital organisations and supporting digital growth, Australia's funding landscape focuses more toward mature organisations with little support for start-ups at the beginning of the journey. This can lead to organisations moving their ideas and talent offshore to bigger markets that can offer support.
Helen says there is a gap in understanding by local investors that often limits investment, forcing digital health and technology entrepreneurs to look beyond their backyard for scale support.
"There's lots of seed funding, and seemingly a lot of money for $20 million rounds, but when you're a start-up that needs to scale up and need to have two to three years of runway to execute to deliver results, that's where it's hard."
She says urgent discussions need to be had around building sustainable investment models that can support and maintain the growth of the Australian digital health ecosystem and nurture innovation to ensure the future viability of Australia's role in the sector. There is also strong support for government-led policy changes and reimbursement that enable evidence-based digital health innovation to transform our health system.

(312 words) - [Cardihab achieves TGA Class IIa and ISO certification](/content/news/cardihab-achieves-tga-class-iia-and-iso-certification.html):Cardihab Digital therapeutic has been proudly registered with the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods (ARTG) as a Class I medical device since December 2020. In response to the up regulation of Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) products to class IIa or higher depending on the intended use, we are proud to announce we have achieved our Class IIa registration and the associated certification to ISO 13485:2016 as well.
These milestones aren’t just regulatory checkboxes. They are a signal of our commitment to quality digital health solutions, patient safety and evidence-based innovation. They demonstrate that Cardihab’s solutions meet the rigorous standards set by the regulatory authority for quality, safety, and clinical effectiveness. For healthcare providers and partners, this means:
Achieving ISO 13485 certification and Class IIa designation is a significant undertaking. This requirement from the TGA signals to the healthcare industry that digital health solutions can and must meet the same rigorous standards as traditional medical devices.
“At Cardihab, we have been long-term advocates for the regulation of SaMD as we see compliance with quality standards and clinical evidence as essential for building trust in digital health solutions and delivering quality outcomes for patients and healthcare professionals. Regulatory compliance should not be seen as an opt in or opt out choice that technology companies can make - it’s a commercialisation requirement for all applicable solutions.”
Helen Souris, CEO, Cardihab
This achievement reinforces our commitment to helping health services deliver clinically validated care models. It’s another step forward in our mission to improve patient outcomes and empower clinicians with tools they can trust.
Thank you to our clients, partners, and team for supporting us on this journey. Together, we’re building a stronger future for cardiac care and digital therapeutics in Australia.

Cardihab Pty Ltd - Self-care monitoring web-based application software (520745)
In a recent Health Industry Hub discussion hosted by Rozalina Sarkezians Health Industry Hub, Ian Burgess (CEO of Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) and Helen Souris (CEO and Exec Director of Cardihab) explored the findings of MTAA’s Digital Health Report and its implications for reform.
Both leaders highlighted the untapped potential of digital health technologies such as AI, remote patient monitoring, and digital therapeutics- to improve patient outcomes, equity of access, and system efficiency. However, Australia lags behind global leaders like Germany and France due to outdated funding mechanisms and a fragmented health system. While private insurers are adopting faster, public hospitals remain constrained by reimbursement gaps.
The report calls for urgent funding reform through fit-for-purpose Health Technology Assessment (HTA) and reimbursement pathways, enabling evidence requirements to include real-world evidence to support fast-moving innovations. Helen stressed the need to move beyond “pilotitis,” noting Cardiab’s proven success with multiple pilots, including the Medibank pilot that demonstrated 91% completion rates, a 71% reduction in hospital bed days and improved survival rates - yet systemic adoption remains limited.
Collaboration across Commonwealth, states, and industry is essential. MTAA recommends establishing a national remote care coordination body to bridge gaps between hospital discharge and community care.
The report outlines a three-phase roadmap:
Year 1: Create the coordination body, targeted grants, and a digital health library.
Years 2–3: Develop sector-specific funding pathways.
Years 3–5: Implement permanent funding mechanisms and system integration.
Digital health is not a trend—it’s a strategic enabler for equity, efficiency, and workforce sustainability. The evidence is clear: these technologies save lives and reduce costs. The question is—will Australia act now or wait for another crisis?

2025. What a year!
As 2025 draws to a close, I am filled with gratitude and pride as I reflect on the extraordinary progress we have made together.
This year has been one of remarkable growth, impact and momentum. We saw record levels of patient engagement, with thousands more Australians and New Zealanders accessing our cardiac rehabilitation and heart disease prevention programs across both metropolitan and regional areas. The letters of thanks we have received from patients particularly those in regional communities remind us of the life‑changing difference that accessible, digital care can make. Knowing that someone can complete their rehabilitation from the comfort of their own home, without the barriers of distance or limited local services, continues to inspire our mission.
Our partnerships have also gone from strength to strength. With more than 80% of private health insurers now offering Cardihab programs, access to vital cardiac rehab and heart disease prevention programs have never been broader. This expansion has allowed us to support not only those recovering from cardiac events, but also people managing conditions such as Atrial Fibrillation and Heart Failure, as well as those identified through heart health checks, and discovered they are at a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, who need proactive prevention.
Cardihab‘s Primary Prevention Program empowers people at risk of heart disease to take proactive steps such as improvements in diet, exercise, medication reminders and daily habits toward better heart health through clinically supervised, home-based care. This first‑of‑its‑kind program is already helping people take meaningful steps to manage their risk and protect their future heart health.
Beyond patient care, 2025 has been a year where Cardihab’s voice has resonated strongly across the digital health sector. We’ve proudly contributed to national conversations, presented at industry conferences, received national coverage in mainstream media for the outstanding results of Medibank’s Cardihab pilot and welcomed new private health insurance partnerships across Australia, working alongside industry associations to strengthen the reach and quality of virtual care.
Three new real world evidence publications in leading European journals detailing world class clinical and health economic outcomes have raised the bar for digital therapeutics in our sector and strengthened the call to action for reimbursement. These opportunities have reinforced our role not just as a provider of digital therapeutics, but as a leader in shaping the future of digital health in Australia. Joining the Board of the Medical Technology Association of Australia (MTAA) and Chairing the MTAA’s Digital Health Advisory Group provides an important opportunity to strengthen the maturation, impact and reach of the digital health sector through member collaboration and joint advocacy.
None of this would be possible without the dedication of our incredible Cardihab team, the guidance of our Board, the support of our shareholders, our wonderful customers and the vibrant ecosystem of digital health advocates and partners who share our mission. Together, we are advancing digital healthcare impact and reach and improving heart health across Australia.
While the pace of change in healthcare and technology adoption ebbs and flows, one thing remains constant: our commitment to ensuring people receive the care they need, in ways that truly work for them. Looking ahead, 2026 promises to be another exciting year, with new partnerships, expanded prevention initiatives, and continued innovation in digital health.
From all of us at Cardihab, thank you for your trust, collaboration, and energy throughout 2025 and in advance for your continued support for the future. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a heart‑healthy new year.
Warm regards,
Helen
CEO & Exec Director,

(146 words) - [2024 Season’s Greetings from Cardihab](/content/news/2024-seasons-greetings-from-cardihab/index.html):I know I am not alone when I reflect on how fast 2024 flew by, yet reflecting back through the major global and local events reminds us of just how much has happened this year. From our perspective at Cardihab, here are just a few reflections of the progress we've made together throughout 2024, and why we are looking forward to 2025.
Our proudest achievements continue to be our ability to deliver on our purpose - providing people with the care they need, in ways that work for them. 2024 has been a year of growth in patient uptake with many of our customers reaching record numbers of people who would otherwise miss out on cardiac rehab after their cardiac event or heart procedure. What's even more important, is that we continue to see excellent clinical outcomes, customer satisfaction scores and results as our programs scale.
Our valued partnerships and customers from private health insurance, public hospitals, virtual healthcare services providers and private hospitals are enabling more people than ever before to have a choice in how they recover from their cardiac event. With just over 75% of Private Health Insurers now providing Cardihab programs to their members, we expect access to vital cardiac rehab and primary prevention programs to go from strength to strength in the new year.
Together, we have now helped thousands of people across Australia, and as always, we love it when people take the time to share their experiences with us with letters of thanks and gratitude. This particular letter exemplifies the impact we strive to achieve...
"The importance of programs like this, particularly in regional & remote locations like [location withheld], cannot be underestimated. It's hard enough to see a doctor regularly in these locations yet alone receive professional, life changing rehabilitation from my own living room.
I hope that this program continues to support regional locations in the future & that you have the opportunity to improve other lives like you have already improved mine."
Another important highlight this year was the expansion of our programs to support the whole cardiac patient journey. This included helping people with Arial Fibrillation, Heart Failure and Primary prevention - for people that have had a heart health check and need cardiac disease management post diagnosis. In quarter one 2025, an exciting new partnership will begin that will offer the first of its kind program to people that have a high-risk score from any heart health screening program like Shane Warne Legacy, Heartbeat of Football, or their GP- exciting times ahead and stay tuned for updates.
None of this would be possible without the tireless and persistent determination our wonderful Cardihab team and Board, the continued support from our Shareholders and the inspirational ecosystem of digital health advocates, industry partners and agencies who are striving to strengthen the quality and reach of digital health solutions across Australia. To every person who has contributed to our journey, we sincerely thank you for your energy, collaboration, and commitment to helping us advance digital healthcare and improve heart health.
Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a heart-healthy new year!

We’re proud to announce that HCF, Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund, will deliver Cardihab’s Primary Prevention program – to support eligible HCF members at moderate to high risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD).
Through the program, eligible HCF members will be able to access Cardihab’s digital home-based cardiac prevention program, designed to help them take proactive steps to manage their heart health. Participants will receive personalised, evidence-based care plans and one-on-one support from a dedicated HCF Health coach.
The initiative responds to the rising burden of cardiovascular disease in Australia, with 1 in 6 Australians currently living with heart related conditions. By improving access to preventative cardiac care, this program aims to help HCF members make sustainable, healthy lifestyle changes while reducing barriers to primary healthcare services – especially for those in rural and remote areas.
Our purpose-built digital health solution for cardiac disease prevention is available to HCF members from today, and can be accessed conveniently via mobile, table, desktop or wearable devices – wherever and whenever members need it.
Driving Better Outcomes for HCF Members
“With cardiovascular disease being one of Australia’s leading causes of death, it’s critical to empower Australians with preventative tools and ongoing support to take control of their heart health,” said Cardihab CEO Helen Souris. “It’s about more than technology - it’s about creating meaningful change.”
“This initiative demonstrates HCF’s commitment to investing in innovative preventative healthcare solutions that place their members’ health first and we’re thrilled to collaborate with HCF to deliver personalised, evidence based preventative care to their members, when and where they need it.”
Eligible HCF members participating in the program will benefit from:
Linda Opie, Head of Health & Wellbeing at HCF, said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to using innovation to drive better health outcomes.
“We’re committed to delivering healthcare that puts our members’ wellbeing first,” said Ms Opie. “This partnership is a great example of how digital innovation can make preventative care more accessible and more personalised. By supporting members at higher risk of heart disease with guided coaching and practical tools, we hope to empower lasting change and improved health outcomes.”
